heroine of several Old Norse legends whose principal theme is revenge. She is the sister of Gunnar and wife of Sigurd (Siegfried in germanic legends) and, after Sigurd’s death, she became the last wife of Attila the hun. Best knows as marrying Sigurd who was murdered by a rival kingdom, she married the murderer king and annihilated the entire kingdom on her wedding day to avenge Sigurd.
